We drove back down Blue Ridge Parkway to Great Smoky National Park the next weekend and found it bathed in warmth and sunlight. Even though peak fall color had passed, we were still treated to a colorful show in the lower elevations.
Sun over the Smokies
Parts of the lower hills were just starting to change color and exploded the following week.
On clear days, you can see for miles-- in fact, if you're high enough, you can even see the Charlotte skyline from parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway!
Two of the most recognizable places along the Parkway are Devil's Courthouse (top left) and Looking Glass Rock (top right).
